Lack of proven goal-poacher costs Eagles title race

Published from Blogger Prime Android App

They are just two points below the leaders, Nyasa Big Bullets Football Club but they have played two games more, Blue Eagles tried but one thing per haps have costed them. Bullets will only need to get four points from their remaining four games which is qn obvious thing though everything can happen in Football.

Eagles have been the most improved team this season after resisting relegation chop in the very last game of last season.

They travelled to Blantyre where they were needed to earn a win over Mighty Mukuru Wanderers at all expenditures and fortunately, they got it. Gilbert Chirwa scored two goals and Chifuniro scored one to claim a decisive 3-1 win at Kamuzu Stadium.

To avoid such an embarrassing situation, the Eagles had to work on their weaknesses by signing players and they were the most shoppers on the market, signing over 5 players, goalkeeper, Brighton Munthali from Silver Strikers, defender Sankhani Mkandawire, midfielder Ben Manyozo, Laurent and Trouble Banda from TN Stars, Iyan Chinyama from TN Stars just to mention afew.

The team's spirit has been of enormous affection this season, not also bypassing the Administration part.

However, they missed one target during the transfer window, that's having a proper goal-poacher.

Eagles have been leading the table for a time and their longing was noticed after hammering Red Lions 4-1 at Balaka Stadium and the Club's Captain Schumacker Kuwali said the team would win the league.

"Keep my words, today April 20 2022, I am telling you that Blue Eagles will win 2022 TNM Super League," he told Zodiak Sports.

Things turned against them as they had played three games consecutively [Against Dedza Dynamos, Civo Service United and Kamuzu Barracks] without finding the back of the net.

And the draws were broadened to five as they also played 1-all against Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Ekwendeni Hammers before suffering a 1-0 defeat to TN Stars.

Plummeting points in six consecutive games paved way for the defending Champions, Nyasa Big Bullets to top the table for the first time.

Playing three games without finding the back of the net garnished a picture that the club has alot to do with scoring goals.

They have been relying on three players [Schumacker Kuwali, Micium Mhone and Gaddie Chirwa] who are all-round forwards, with no a proved goal-poacher.

Nyasa Big Bullets Assistant Coach Peter Mponda whose team score for fun also highlighted Eagles' scoring struggle.

"They are struggling to score more goals. They are not scoring more goals but they are solid at the back, I think we are the highest scoring team in the league, we believe that if we score goals, we win the game," said Mponda.

Blue Eagles have managed to score only 33 goals out of 28 games, meaning that they score 1.2 goals in every single game on average which is totally different to the team that they are battling with for the Championship. But they are the only team to concede less goals [only 9 goals have hit the back of their net].

Nyasa Big Bullets have managed to pillage 58 goals from 26 games which means they score 2.2 goals in every single game they have played.

Bullets have their talisman, Babatunde Adepoju who is leading the scoring chart with 16 goals while Eagles' top goal-scorer, Gaddie Chirwa has scored 9.

Eagles have Maxwell Salambula who has been having limited playing minutes and he has only scored one goal this season, Chifuniro Mpinganjira, Chikondi Mvula and they also signed Christopher Gototo from Ascent Academy but minutes in the pitch has been a problem for all the four Strikers.

Ony why Eliya Kananji prefers Gaddie, Mhone and Schumacker, he said these are the players who are performing better then the Strikers that they have at their disposal.

"These are the players who are performing better than the others. I pick players who are doing well in our training sessions," said Kananji.

In 2020, Nyasa Big Bullets won the league after scoring 51 goals, conceding 18, in 2019, they scored 62 goals and in 2018 they scored 55 goals.

In 2017, Mighty Beforeward Wanderers [now Mighty Mukuru Wanderers] were the highest scoring team and they won the league with 46 goals while Kamuzu Baracks won the league in 2016 after scoring 55 goals.

This is a clear indication that a team which is eager to win the league should score at least 40 goals.

Eagles will finish the season with TN Stars and Mafco and they will need to work on the scoring aspect before the next season starts.
